                                                                  Job Description - Accompanist

General:
The successful applicant to this salaried position provides keyboard accompaniment to the Burlington Choral Society (BCS), and answers to the Music Director for direction on musical matters and to the Executive for direction on all other matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to:
*    accompanying all rehearsals of the BCS, and arranging for a suitable substitute should such a need arise;
*    accompanying all formal concerts and community concerts of the BCS;
*    leading sectional rehearsals of the Choir when required;
*    accompanying the BCS at any special events at which the Choir may be asked to sing.

Job Qualifications/Requirements:
The successful applicant will have:    
*    a high level of keyboard expertise with a strong emphasis on rhythmic stability;
*    the ability to play individual parts for rehearsal;
*    the ability to follow a conductor;
*    the ability to sight read when needed;
*    the flexibility to accompany the Choir on an electronic keyboard when no piano is available;
*    a firm commitment to preparation, and to executing the responsibilities of the accompanist to the BCS;
*    a high regard for and careful stewardship of the music that is loaned by the BCS.
 
Remuneration:     
The salary offered is $4000.00 for the year, with some room for negotiation depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant.  Arrangements may be made for the salary to be paid in 10 or 12 instalments.

Additional Information about the BCS:
*   We rehearse on Tuesday evening, from 7:30 pm, to 9:30 pm, at Port Nelson United Church in Burlington.
*   Our Fall Session usually starts on the first Tuesday after Labour Day in September, and ends with our final
        concert in December.
*   Our Christmas Concert usually takes place on the first Sunday of December, in the afternoon. 
*   If other community concerts are arranged in December, they take place on the Tuesday evenings, in a variety
        of venues, including nursing and retirement homes.
*   The Winter Session usually starts on the first Tuesday after New Year's Day, and ends in May.
*   Our Spring Concert usually takes place on the first Sunday afternoon in May, and community concerts, if
        arranged, will take place on the following Tuesday evenings.
*   We sing a variety of music, secular and sacred, modern and traditional, from selections from Rogers and
        Hammerstein, Gilbert and Sullivan and Greg Gilpin, to works by Paul Halley, music that, we believe, brings
        a special flavour to the music scene in Burlington.
